What Are High Bay LED Lights?
High bay LED lights are engineered for large indoor spaces with ceiling heights between 15 and 45 feet, delivering powerful illumination where it’s needed most. These fixtures replace metal halide, HPS, and fluorescent high bay units with modern, energy-efficient LED technology that dramatically cuts operating costs. You’ll find LED High Bay Lights in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, gymnasiums and big-box retail stores: anywhere that demands consistent, high-output performance. With lumen packages typically ranging from 10,000 to 45,000 lumens, they provide exceptional brightness while using far less energy than conventional lighting systems.
What Are the Different Types of High Bay LED Lights?
When you’re choosing high bay LED lights, the right fixture style can make or break a project. At Duralec, we stock the configurations contractors ask for most: built for real job-site conditions, fast installations and long-term performance. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you match each high bay lighting style to the space you’re working on:
- Linear High Bays: Rectangular fixtures delivering wide, uniform coverage – perfect for aisles, racked storage, and open work areas. Available in 2ft, 4ft, and 8ft models.
- Round/UFO High Bays: Compact circular fixtures with focused beam angles (60°–120°). Ideal for concentrated illumination from high mounting points.
- Wattage-Selectable High Bays: On-site wattage control (e.g., 65W/75W/85W) lets you fine-tune output while reducing SKUs on the truck.
- Color-Selectable High Bays: Multiple CCT options, usually 4000K/5000K, adjustable via toggle, giving you full control over brightness and visual comfort.
Where Are High Bay LED Lights Used?
Used in a range of scenarios from warehouse lighting to commercial LED shop lights, high bay LED lights are built for large, high-ceiling environments where powerful, reliable illumination is non-negotiable. At Duralec, contractors use them across a wide range of commercial and industrial spaces, including:
- Warehouses and distribution centers
- Manufacturing plants and factories
- Aircraft hangars
- Gymnasiums and sports facilities
- Big-box retail stores
- Auditoriums and convention centers
- Automotive workshops and service bays
- Cold storage facilities
- Agricultural buildings and barns
Whether you’re lighting a new build or upgrading outdated fixtures, industrial LED high bay lighting delivers consistent, high-output performance wherever large-scale illumination is required.
Benefits of High Bay LED Lights
The benefits of high bay LED light fixtures make them a top choice for our customers:
- Energy Savings: Cut energy use by up to 70% vs. metal halide.
- Long Lifespan: 50,000+ hours reduces maintenance and replacements.
- Instant On: Full brightness immediately, no warm-up time needed.
- Dimmable: These dimmable high bays are compatible with 0–10V systems.
- Low Heat Output: Safer operation with less strain on HVAC systems.
- DLC Listed: Eligible for utility rebates and incentive programs.
- Low Maintenance: No ballasts or bulbs to replace.
- Superior Light Quality: High CRI (80+) ensures clear, accurate visibility.
How Do You Connect High Bay LED Lights?
Highbay LED lights connect via hardwired installation to your electrical system. Most fixtures operate on 120-277V (standard commercial voltage) or 277-480V (industrial voltage). Installation options include:
- Hook and cord mount: Pre-installed hook with power cord for chain/cable suspension
- Surface mount brackets: Direct ceiling attachment for rigid mounting
- Pendant mount: Suspended from conduit for adjustable height
- Aircraft cable kits: V-hook suspension systems included with most fixtures.
All wiring should be performed by a licensed electrician. Many fixtures also include Zhaga-compatible sensor bases for adding motion sensors or daylight harvesting controls.
Maximum Run of High Bay LED Lights
High bays LED lights are individually powered, so there is no “run length” limitation. Circuit capacity determines the number of fixtures:
- 20A at 120V: 8–10 fixtures (100W each)
- 20A at 277V: 18–22 fixtures (100W each)
For large installations, distribute fixtures across multiple circuits and consult an electrical engineer for proper load planning.
